The Role of OT in Health Promotion

In life, there are several things that usually fall at the top of a person's list of things that they cherish most in this world. Some might say their family and friends, their jobs, or their pets, but more often than not, many will list their health as being one of these. Because of this alone, shouldn't we do whatever we can to preserve and best promote this treasured component of our lives? The World Health Organization measures health based on a person's ability to participate in their daily lives (WHO). I think that this statement is extremely crucial to take note of when we look at occupational therapy, because this is essentially the main objective of the profession as a whole. Because occupational therapy practitioners believe that there is a strong correlation between a person's health and their ability to participate in occupations that give them meaning and purpose, we are able to recognize the importance of the use of habits and routines that promote and help to maintain healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices.
