Reflection on Traumatic Brian Injuries

Personally, I find traumatic brain injuries to be quite captivating. People receive diagnoses each and every day that consist of their own body acting out against them in a way that causes a change to their physiological makeup. This could be anything from cancer to pneumonia. TBIs are unique in that they result from an outside force that results in this same effect. Because of this, I could understand why they can be so frustrating upon diagnosis. In Jermaine's story that was shared in class, I really enjoyed the tying in of his history as an athlete to his motivation and determination to fully recover. Not only are our brains very fragile entities, but they are also extremely strong and capable of such great change. I find it very fascinating that with Jermaine, it was his damaged organ that ultimately allowed him to be motivated and do the work that was necessary to heal.
